The Golden Ticket is a triptych from Aly’s At Long Last body of work, rooted in ancestry and the significance of grandmothers. It grew from a 21-day residency in Arraiolos, Portugal, where Aly sketched older women and reflected on the girls they had once been.
The work honours Aly’s grandmothers, Edna and Anna — the foundations they laid, the creativity they carried and the freedom their granddaughter inherited. Movement in the paintings holds a sense of Anna’s musicality, while 18ct gold appears simply as treasure: a reflection of how Aly sees grandmothers.
