My name is Aly. My Dad died when I was seven. Making art became a way of understanding what I couldn’t yet put into words.
More than thirty years later, I still paint from that place- but now grief sits alongside colour, movement humour and joy.

She’s Golden

Created for my SHE collection, She’s Golden is a celebration of the quiet strength that so many women carry.
There comes a point, often in our forties, when life has shaped us through love, loss, motherhood, work, disappointment and joy. We begin to let go of the need to prove ourselves and step more fully into who we already are. This painting was made for that woman.
Built from layers of wall paint, acrylic, oil and expressive mark-making, the surface holds its own history. A fine dusting of gold powder catches the light, revealing itself differently as you move around the painting. Rather than symbolising perfection, the gold represents resilience — the beauty that appears after life has tested us.
Like much of my work, this painting balances energy with softness. It celebrates women who continue to choose hope, who lead with compassion and who understand that confidence isn’t always loud. Sometimes it is simply the quiet decision to keep becoming.
